GIS Data Administrator - IT Tech

SUMMARY:

The GIS Data Administrator / IT Technician is responsible for receiving and importing utility print data into ARKUPS GIS Systems, providing accurate and updated information to end users. Will produce reports and high-quality maps as needed, and aid in the use, maintenance, and development of the ARKUPS web mapping application and its related hardware and software. Provide front line help-desk support for IT and GIS issues to office and field users, as well as perform daily IT and GIS tasks and projects as required. This position will serve as backup to the GIS Manager.


Job Qualifications:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Web Maps Application / Print Updates

  • Build, maintain and improve map files and other system files; focusing on improving efficiency and speed.
  • Research and implement ways to optimize and increase functionality of the web maps.
  • Update partner data as it is received.
  • Add new partners, or existing partners not currently online, to web maps.
  • Maintain database tracking partner updates.
  • Continually work to make the prints more efficient for use in the field.
  • Resolve any print errors in the web map application and document as necessary.
  • Work with ARKUPS Partners in getting sufficient data.

 GIS Data Management and Analysis

  • Create maps for analysis as required utilizing ticket data, member data, and geographic data.
  • Process zone changes as required by General and District Managers.
  • Make call out zone changes as required.
  • Update land base map data utilizing GPS data from field trucks and other available data sources.

GIS/IT Help-desk and IT Support

  • Provide basic IT/GIS support for office staff; troubleshooting computer, printers, and other related equipment and software issues.
  • Provide support to field users; troubleshooting issues with prints, cellular connectivity, GPS data accessibility, GPS/Data modem hardware, camera/phone hardware and software, and other related hardware and software issues.
  •  Perform required IT duties as assigned, as well as assist GIS Manager and IT with special projects.

 Skills

  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Must be able to read and interpret maps and electronic prints.
  • Must be able and willing to learn new software and skills.
  • Must be proficient and knowledgeable in GIS standards and software, including various mapping formats, as GIS software like ESRI ArcGIS software, QGIS, or other related products.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Software.
  • Must be organized and have the ability to prioritize.
  • Programming, coding, scripting experience is highly preferred but not required.

Physical Abilities

  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend and stoop
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outside and walk over various types of terrain.
